Course overview
The PADI Self Reliant Diver Specialty course equips you with the essential skills and knowledge needed to independently tackle various underwater challenges. While some may label this course as focused on “solo diving,” the techniques you acquire during the PADI Self Reliant Specialty can be beneficial for all your dives, whether you’re with a buddy or diving solo.

- 1 Self Reliant Theory Session featuring custom Northern Underwater Explorers content
- 3 Open Water Dives
On-Demand Course: This program is offered on an individual basis. To schedule your training, simply register online and specify “I would like to schedule my own class start date.” Weekend and weekday options are available. After receiving your registration, Northern Underwater Explorers will reach out to confirm your training request and officially schedule your course.
- All standard diving equipment, including a drysuit
- Surface Marker Buoy (SMB) and spool
- Additional surface signaling devices (such as a whistle)
- Two masks (one primary and one redundant)
- Two dive lights (one primary and one backup)
- Two cutting devices (recommended configuration: one knife and one line cutter)
- Two dive computers (one primary and one backup). Computer rental is available for $30.
- Redundant gas source – While there are several options, we strongly recommend a 40 cuft cylinder for single tank divers. Our instructors are skilled in using specialized equipment, including carrying a 40 cuft redundant cylinder, and will teach you protocols similar to those followed by experienced technical divers. Rental for a 40 cuft cylinder with regulator is available for $50.
Rental of the dive computer and 40 cuft cylinder can be added through our Course Registration.

Medical Statement
